Honeywell XNX-AMAE-RNNNN – Universal Transmitter for Toxic & Oxygen Sensors
Designed for toxic and oxygen detection. The XNX-AMAE-RNNNN combines a common platform with modular I/O. Supports electrochemical cartridges via built-in IS barrier. Offers HART® over 4-20mA and 3 fault/alarm relays.
Oiltech Controls’s Insight
- This transmitter excels in retrofit projects. Its aluminium housing (painted) reduces weight while maintaining ATEX/IECEx protection.
- Personality ‘E’ includes an intrinsic safety barrier – simplifies wiring for toxic/O2 sensors.
- HART EDDL software delivers at-a-glance device health – cuts troubleshooting time.
- 4 x M25 entries allow flexible cable routing in crowded panels.
What Equipment Does It Fit?
- Honeywell XNX toxic sensors (CO, H2S, NH3, Cl2, etc.)
- Honeywell XNX oxygen sensors (O2)
- Any PLC or DCS accepting 4-20mA with HART® (e.g., Modicon Quantum, Siemens, AB)
- Standalone Honeywell or third-party gas monitoring controllers

5 Expert FAQ – Selection & Practical Advice
- Which sensors work with this XNX-AMAE-RNNNN?
Only Honeywell electrochemical cartridges for toxic gases (CO, H2S, SO2, NO2, Cl2, etc.) and O2. Do not use catalytic or infrared sensors with this personality.
- How do I choose between aluminium and stainless steel?
Aluminium (this model) is lighter and cost-effective for indoor or mild environments. For offshore or corrosive areas, choose 316SS (e.g., XNX-AMSV).
- Can I add HART locally later?
No, this unit has “N” for local HART – no option installed. Use a HART communicator or DCS over the 4-20mA loop for remote access.
- What relay functions are available?
3 relays: programmable for alarm, fault, or warning. Default: high alarm, low alarm, fault. You can reconfigure via HART.
- Is this transmitter compatible with Modbus?
Not directly. Use a HART-to-Modbus gateway (e.g., MTL or Pepperl+Fuchs) to integrate with Modbus networks.
Typical Applications – Where to Use
- Chemical plants – toxic gas leak detection
- Water/wastewater – chlorine and O2 monitoring
- Pharmaceutical – solvent and O2 deficiency
- Food & beverage – CO2 or O2 control
- Mining – diesel exhaust (NO2/CO)
