Expert FAQ
What is the main difference between the Standard and SMART620 decoder?
The standard decoder can read up to 20 codes in one scan. The SMART620 decoder is optimized for simpler tasks and reads up to 6 codes per scan.
Can this scanner connect to a PROFIBUS network?
Yes, but not directly. You need an optional external fieldbus module (CDF600-2) for PROFIBUS DP communication.
What does “raster scanner” mean for my application?
It means the laser moves in multiple lines. This creates a taller reading zone. It is very good for finding barcodes that are not perfectly positioned.
Is the scanner suitable for reading codes on reflective surfaces?
It requires a minimum print contrast of 60%. Highly reflective or low-contrast labels may cause reading problems. Test your specific labels.
How do I choose between the Ethernet and serial interface?
Use Ethernet for fast, modern networks and long-distance wiring. Use the serial RS-232/422/485 interface for simple, direct connections to PLCs or older systems.
