1606-XLS240-UPS | 24 V DC UPS Module | Oiltech Controls Review
The 1606-XLS240-UPS is an Allen-Bradley Bulletin 1606-XL DC-UPS module. It rides in parallel with a 1606-XLS supply and bridges mains loss through an external 12 V battery. On a healthy bus, output 1 passes up to 15 A. During buffer mode, the unit regulates to 22.5 V and holds 10 A continuous. Therefore, the load sees a controlled rail during short outages. Engineers use it where a PLC must finish a scan and park safely.
Bulletin 1606-XL Series in the Panel
- DC-UPS sits between the supply and the load rail
- No bus port, so it stays outside network diagnostics
- Body matches the 1606-XL frame, 49 mm wide
- DIN rail clip only, open-frame IP20 housing
- Battery string chosen by the panel builder, 3.9…40 Ah
- Hardware maps to the PULS UB10.241 platform
Electrical Behavior
- Input bus: 22.5…30 V DC from the host supply
- Normal mode: up to 15 A, 360 W
- Buffer mode: 10 A continuous, 15 A peak, 240 W rated
- Buffer output: regulated to 22.5 V
- Battery: external 12 V, 3.9…40 Ah range
- Self draw: 1.3 A including charge current
- Buffer time: set by battery Ah, not by the module
- Charge time: depends on battery size and depth of discharge
Thermal and Mechanical
- Operating range: -25 to +70 °C
- Storage range: -40 to +85 °C
- Humidity: 5 to 95% RH, non-condensing
- Size (H×W×D): 124 × 49 × 117 mm
- Weight: 530 g
- Lifecycle: active on the Rockwell page, checked 2026-10

Professional FAQ
Q: Which battery should I pair with this module?
A: Use a sealed lead-acid 12 V block within 3.9…40 Ah. Size it from load current times required buffer minutes. Add margin for aging and cold panels.
Q: Does the module charge the battery itself?
A: Yes. Charge current is included in the 1.3 A self draw. Full charge time follows battery Ah, so a large block takes longer. Plan first power-up time accordingly.
Q: Can I run the load above 10 A during buffer mode?
A: Only for peaks up to 15 A and short duration. Continuous draw above 10 A in buffer mode is outside the rating. Keep critical loads under the limit.
Q: How do I know the module is in buffer mode?
A: There is no bus port, so watch the status LED and the rail voltage. A drop to 22.5 V shows buffer operation. Wire a rail monitor if you need a remote signal.
Q: Is this the same hardware as the PULS UB10.241?
A: The platforms match. Rockwell brands it under 1606-XLS. Some thermal and humidity figures come from the PULS sheet. Check the Rockwell datasheet for formal release values.
