1762-IT4: Four-Channel Thermocouple and Millivolt Input for MicroLogix 1200
The Allen-Bradley 1762-IT4 adds four thermocouple channels to a MicroLogix 1200 rack. A dedicated CJC sensor sits on the module. It reads types J, K, T, E, R, N, S, B, and C. It also takes direct millivolt signals at plus or minus 50 mV and plus or minus 100 mV. Conversion uses the Sigma-Delta method at 15-bit plus sign resolution. Filter frequency is selectable from 10 Hz to 1 kHz. Channel update time follows that choice, from 303 ms down to 7 ms. Data formats cover engineering units x1 and x10, scaled-for-PID, percent of full scale, and raw proportional. Wiring uses differential input pairs. Belden 8761 is the recommended cable for mV signals.

FAQ
Q: Which filter frequency should I start with?
A: Match local mains. Use 50 Hz or 60 Hz for slow temperature loops. Go higher only for fast tests.
Q: Can I mix thermocouples and millivolt inputs?
A: Yes. The 1762-IT4 accepts both. Configure each channel for its own signal type.
Q: What should I check on a used 1762-IT4?
A: Check CJC accuracy near ambient. Test one channel per type. Ask for a test report.
Q: Why do my readings drift?
A: Usually a shield or ground loop issue. Ground the shield at one end. Keep wires away from drives.
Q: Is this module right for a new MicroLogix 1200 build?
A: Yes, if you need four or fewer channels. Count spare channels and rack distance first.
