F3NC34-0N Yokogawa 4-Axis Positioning Module: Engineering Overview
The F3NC34-0N extends Yokogawa FA-M3 motion control to four axes on one module. It outputs position reference pulses in open-loop mode. Each axis drives a servo at up to 5 Mpps or a stepper at up to 1 Mpps. Pulse format is selectable per axis: CW/CCW, travel/direction, or phase A/B. Because it handles 4-axis linear interpolation plus helical paths, it fits compact multi-axis machines that would otherwise need two 2-axis cards. Counter inputs accept incremental phase A/B encoders and absolute encoders at 5 Mpps after 4x multiplication.

- Output stage: RS-422A differential line driver, 5 Mpps servo / 1 Mpps stepper.
- Counter channels: 4, incremental or absolute encoder, 5 Mpps after 4x multiplication.
- Digital I/O per axis: 6 inputs (origin, forward limit, reverse limit, driver alarm, external trigger, general-purpose) and 3 outputs (1 deviation pulse clear, 2 general-purpose), plus 1 SEN signal; shared emergency stop.
- Interpolation: 2-, 3-, and 4-axis linear; 2-axis circular and helical.
- Control modes: Position, speed, and position to speed switchover.
- Position reference: Absolute or incremental, -2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,647 pulses.
- Speed reference: 1 to 5,000,000 pps.
- Acceleration and deceleration: Automatic trapezoidal or S-shape, 0 to 32,767 ms, set separately for ACC and DCC.
- Pattern memory: 2000 action records (500 actions x 4 patterns), 2000 position records per axis.
- Units: mm, degrees, pulses.
- Data retention: Flash ROM, 100,000 rewrite cycles, no battery needed.
- Anti-interference: Differential pulse output rejects common-mode noise on long cable runs.
- Environment: Factory floor use inside a ventilated control cabinet.
- Certification: Yokogawa FA-M3 series conformity; request the current certificate set before order.
Machine Types This Module Fits
- Four-axis Cartesian robots and gantry loaders.
- XY-Theta pick-and-place heads with rotation on the fourth axis.
- Coil winding and wire forming machines that need helical motion.
- Multi-station packaging lines with pass-by and pass-through CP moves.
- FA-M3 retrofits where two 2-axis cards no longer fit the rack.
Commissioning and Daily Maintenance
- Set units in mm, degrees, or pulses, then scale with electronic gear.
- Use teaching mode to capture real positions after jog setup.
- Change target position or speed during motion to trim cycle time.
- Two automatic origin search types plus manual search on any input combination.
- Manual pulse generator mode helps during mechanical alignment.
- Software limit switch and zone coincidence detection cut crash risk.
Compatibility and Integration Notes
- Mounts in a Yokogawa FA-M3 base unit slot; check slot power budget first.
- Match driver input to the selected pulse format before power-on.
- Keep RS-422A pairs twisted and shielded; ground the shield at one end.
- M code output handshakes with host PLC or sequencer logic.
- Override input allows feed-rate trim from the machine panel.
Oiltech Controls Review and Insight
- Our bench checks confirm stable pulse output at rated 5 Mpps on all four axes.
- Pattern memory holds after power cycles; flash ROM shows no data loss in our tests.
- Engineers report clean interpolation on 4-axis linear moves with mixed servo and stepper axes.
- Most failures we see come from unshielded pulse cables, not the module itself.
- Buy the F3NC34-0N when rack space is tight and axis count is rising.

FAQ
Q: Can I mix servo and stepper axes on one F3NC34-0N?
A: Yes. Pulse type and rate are set per axis. A common setup runs two servos at 5 Mpps and two steppers at 1 Mpps.
Q: Does 4-axis linear interpolation need extra firmware?
A: No. It is a standard mode. You define the target in the position record and select the interpolation type.
Q: What usually causes position drift on these modules?
A: In our service experience, drift traces back to encoder wiring or lost pulses from long unshielded cables, not the output stage.
Q: How do I choose between the F3NC32-0N and the F3NC34-0N?
A: Count your axes first. Two axes fit the F3NC32-0N. Three or four axes, or helical work, need the F3NC34-0N.
Q: Is a refurbished unit safe for a production line?
A: We test pulse output, counter input, and digital I/O on every refurbished unit. Each ships with a 12-month warranty.
